Three Times A Lady!

Wednesday, December 29th, 2010

Ajara makes it three wins on the bounce today at Wolverhampton, this time winning off a mark of 67 under a well judged ride from Richard Kingscote.

The Racing Post commented;

A wide open 61-75 sprint handicap. AJARA, who followed up her 6f handicap success here from a 5lb lower mark by taking a seller here again over six, had to overcome the drop back to five andan outside draw. Breaking smartly and moving sharply towards the inside running rail, she had the leader covered and scored a shade cheekily in the end. All her five career wins have been here and, though she won over 7f at two, she is obviously equally effective over this trip.

Singh when you’re winning!

Tuesday, December 21st, 2010

Jockey Richard Smith has been plying his trade out in Delhi this week and today rode his first two winners.

The first came in the 3.00pm MAHARANA PRATAP CUP DIV-II aboard Victory Star, a 5yo mare, for trainer Magan Singh.

The second came shortly after in the 4.30pm RAJIV GANDHI MEMORIAL CUP DIV-II on another mare, the 6yo Classic Spirit, this time for trainer S P Singh.

The races were worth 70,000 and 80,000 Indian rupees to the winner respectively, equating to around £1,000 for each race. Not far off the prize money levels for some of our low grade races in the UK!

It is currently 20′C in Delhi, with sun, sun and sun forecast for the rest of the week, so at least someone will be able to enjoy some racing!

Well done Smithy!

Double bubble!

Friday, December 17th, 2010

Today saw the yard continue its excellent run of form with wins from Malpas Missile and Bassett Road. Following Bassett Road’s victory, the yard had recorded 6 wins from the last 7 runners.

The Racing Post analysis commented;

MALPAS MISSILE returned from a 106-day absence to take this in facile fashion. Pushed up to lead after a furlong, she kicked clear rounding the home bend and ran right away from some very modest rivals. She didn´t need to run up to her official rating to win this, but had been competitive off marks in the 70s when last seen in nursery company. She is likely to be put away now.”

BASSETT ROAD, a half-brother to smart 6f performer Gramercy, had shown early pace before weakeninglate on when well beaten over the extended 1m here on his racecourse debut last month. Suited by the drop back to 7f, he made his challenge with 2f to run and kept on gamely to the line, despite hanging right in the last 100 yards. He is quite a scopey sort and has the makings of a decent 3-y-o handicapper, with a step back up in trip likely to suit as he matures.”
