Trainer Tom Dascombe's statistics
NB: Statistics based on calendar year. Target correlations are based on distribution of Tom Dascombe's 2006-2009 performance.
Quarter 1 commentary
The first three months of the year have seen us fall slightly behind our extrapolated target. The main reason for this is that we have had far fewer runners on the all-weather than in previous seasons. It is worth noting that our strike rate during the first quarter is 18%; an improvement on the 14% achieved across the 2009 season. The turf season is now fully underway and our goal in the 2nd quarter will be to narrow the gap between our target and actual performance.
Quarter 2 commentary
Our quarterly target was to narrow the gap between our target and actual performance. Unfortunately this hasn't happened. It has been well documented that some of our horses have been under the weather and as a result have not been firing on all cylinders. Following some recent winners and placed runners, we are confident that the yard has turned a corner and that all our horses are now running up to their ability. As a consequence we hope to see an improvement in results during the 2nd half of the year and as such we will not be re-assessing our target of 75 winners. We still have a significant string of unraced 2yos, many of which are back-end types, so there is plenty to look forward to and be positive about.

Quarter 1 commentary
In terms of prize money we are also falling short of our target during the first quarter. The reasons for this are two fold. The first, as mentioned above, is that we have had fewer runners on the all-weather than in previous years. The second reason being that the target line is based on the previous distribution of winners, rather than prize money, and therefore doesn't take into account the fact that races in the first quarter of the year are of lower average value than the turf races we will be competing during the remainder of the season. The sharp increase during March was in no small part due to the success of Classic Colori in the Spring Cup at Lingfield.
Quarter 2 commentary
Despite the fact that our level of winners has fallen further behind our target, we remain not far behind our prize money target during the 2nd quarter. This implies that where we are finding win or place success, we are doing so in races containing decent amounts of prize money. This is evidenced by Class 2 Handicap wins from Blue Jack (including G2 place), Noverre To Go and Jonny Mudball. Again, we feel that our prize money target is still attainable now that our horses are running up to their ability, and we look forward to the second half of the season.
