We have now completed all our yearling purchases in preparation for the 2012 season. We picked up a couple of good value colts at Book 3 of Tattersalls last week to put into our new Yearling Partnership for 2012; The MHS 2012 Olympic Partnership.

Such was the strength of the market, we were unable to secure any purchases on the 2nd day of Book 1, but on the 3rd and final day we did manage to pick up two very good value yearlings that have plenty going for them.

The first day at Tattersalls saw a remarkably strong market with the average up 48% at 151,000gns and the median up 52% at 100,000gns. What recession?! We managed to cherry pick one horse from the sale, a lovely bay filly by Zamindar at a bargain price...

Tom has now returned from the three-day sale at Goffs where we picked up just one addition to the team on the 3rd day. In total we bought 11 at the Goffs Orby Sale, of which there are a few still available to purchase. We'll be back shortly for Tattersalls Book 1 next week!

The Tattersalls Ireland sale at Fairyhouse has now come to a close. Tom and Ed were equally busy on day two, this time buying three more colts, including at the time, the top lot at the sale, an Acclamation colt for €58,000. The last time Tom and Ed paired up to buy the top lot at this sale, they secured the 3yo listed winner Classic Colori.

Last year we bought Viola D'Amour, Bear Behind and Marford Missile at this sale, where the average purchase price is around €20,000 and bargains can often be found. So far Tom and Ed have bought four colts, all by sires that we have had experience of in the past...

We had another busy day on the second and last day of the DBS Premier Yearling Sales, buying seven yearlings in total. This took our total purchases at DBS to ten, and all are now on their way to our pre-training yard just down the road from Manor House Stables. Tom favourite was lot 416, an Exceed And Excel filly, by the same sire as Pyman's Theory who has done so well for us this year.

It was a busy day on day 1 of the DBS Premier Yearling Sales and the market was vibrant, with plenty selling for well above the £50,000 mark. Tom and Ed were successful bidders on two colts and a filly. One of the colts is a half brother to Decision By One and has already been snapped up by Laurence 'not hanging around' Bellman!

Tom is now back in the UK having attended the Arqana August sale. Tom and Ed made one purchase, on the Thursday; an Elusive City filly that qualifies for owners' premiums in France. The sales now come thick and fast, with the DBS Premier Yearling Sales beginning tomorrow, where both Tom and Ed will be in attendance.

Tom is now based in Deauville in preparation for the Arqana sale which takes place from the 22nd to the 25th of August. With 478 yearlings in this year's Arqana August catalogue, there is plenty of homework to be done before the opening day tomorrow!
