About Grant Thornton Racing Club

Despite its name, membership of the club is open to anyone and everyone, not simply to the partners and staff of Grant Thornton, the fifth largest firm of chartered accountants in the UK. The club has been a great success since it was established in December 2006 thanks to the winning efforts of Bold Diktator, Brambleberry, Look Officer and Brouhaha. Those who have been involved in the club since the start have received more than their initial joining fee in prize money. The club currently has in training Brouhaha, a 6-time winner.

Benefits of club membership

*In reality a ballot is rarely needed and those wishing to attend the races can usually do so at zero cost

Pricing of club membership

To join the Grant Thornton Racing Club costs £500. This is a one off payment as a joining fee. Members can join at any time of the year and prize money will be shared equally amongst members for each 12 month period. There is also a monthly charge of just £40, payable by standing order.

Cash-back

If you are a member of the club and you recommend a friend to join in the fun, then the club will reimburse you that month’s £40 monthly subscription. By introducing a new member every month you could enjoy all the fun for just £500 in the first year.

Sponsorship

Grant Thornton, chartered accountants, has very kindly agreed to sponsor the club’s horses. Grant Thornton pays the club a sponsorship fee each time the club has a runner with an additional payment for placed horses and for winners. Sponsorship fees earned are added to prize-money for distribution to members, except where income from subscriptions does not meet the monthly training fee, in which case sponsorship fees will be used in full or in part to cover the deficit.

Rules

The club’s horses are owned by Manor House Stables and all profits or losses arising on the disposal of the club’s horses are for the account of Manor House Stables which will ensure that the club has the benefit of at least one horse in training during a 12 month period. Horses will run in the name of Grant Thornton Racing Club and will carry the purple and white colours of Grant Thornton.

A person becomes a club member on payment of a joining fee of £500 and the completion of a standing order mandate for £40 per month, starting in the month of joining. A membership certificate will be issued.

A referral fee of £40 will be paid to any member who successfully introduces a new member at any time.

To be paid a share in any prize money or sponsorship fees a member must have completed a year’s membership of the club (from the date they joined) and paid the joining fee and 12 months subscriptions. The member will share in the prize money and sponsorship fees earned by the club on a pro-rata basis. Prize money will be distributed annually on or after 31 December, after any deficit arising from BHA fees and training fees is met.
